David Paul Deputy Director, Volunteers and Community Development, Human Rights Campaign Washington, D.C.
I met Hank in 2010 in my role as Deputy Director of the Communities and Volunteer relations program at the Human Rights Campaign. Hank stepped forward as a long-time member interested in increasing his involvement with HRC as a volunteer leader for HRC in Denver during a period of leadership transition. Hank’s fresh perspective, life experience, and passion around building strong teams naturally led him to emerge as our core leader in rebuilding the HRC Colorado Steering Committee.
One of the key challenges in building and sustaining an HRC steering committee is that it is entirely composed of volunteers supported by HRC staff in Washington, DC. Hank’s ability to create a welcoming environment, establish a culture of accountability, and ensure the team members felt successful in their volunteer work led to a dramatic positive change in results. Fundraising dollars increased, more people felt compelled and inspired to join the steering committee, and the steering committee members enjoyed contributing in a significant way to the work of HRC. Thanks to Hank’s leadership he masterfully created a space for the team to form, coalesce, and ultimately produce strong results in a supportive and collaborative team environment.
Joe Scalzo President and CEO, Atkins Nutritionals
As the CEO of two companies in the past five years I have regularly called upon Hank to work with me in the development of my senior leadership teams. I value Hank’s innate ability to design and facilitate successful leadership strategy and operational meetings. Hank understands how business works and what it takes for Executives to lead successful organizations. When Hank is working with us I know that not only will we meet the objectives for our time together but that we will become a much stronger group of leaders as a result.
